Better Classroom is a personal application built and operated by Mahad Kalam ("I", "me"). It displays a user's own Google Classroom courses, announcements, coursework and due dates in one place. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and how you can remove it.
The app is intended for individual use. The instance at classroom.mahadk.com is hosted by me for myself and people I know. Anyone can also run their own copy from the source code. Each person signs in with their own account and only ever sees their own data.
With your permission, the app reads the following from Google Classroom using read-only scopes:
If you choose to connect it, the app can also turn in assignments and post comments on your behalf. It never accesses other students' submissions or grades.
Data is used solely to show you your own Classroom content inside the app: an inbox of recent posts, a to-do list of upcoming work, and course pages. It is not used for advertising, analytics, profiling, or training any model, and it is not sold.
Each account has its own database on the server that runs the app. Credentials you connect, such as an Apps Script key or a Classroom session cookie, are stored encrypted. Nothing is sent to any third party. The only external services the app communicates with are Google's own APIs and your Apps Script deployment, in order to fetch your data.
Your Google user data is not shared with, transferred to, or disclosed to anyone. It is not shared with third parties for any purpose.
Better Classroom's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Data stays in your account's database until it is deleted. To remove it, email me at the
address below and I will delete your account and its database. If you self-host, delete the
app's data directory (by default data/). To revoke the app's access to your
Google account, visit myaccount.google.com/permissions and remove
Better Classroom. Revoking access stops all further data retrieval immediately.
The app is served over HTTPS. Sessions are signed cookies, and connected credentials are encrypted at rest. Access to the server is limited to me.
The app may be used by students, including those under 18, at their own choice and with their school account. I do not collect any data beyond what is needed to show a user their own Classroom content.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
